  1. Heritage/History
    Clovis John Brooks Lane – Brent is liaising with the Brooks family re desired plans for the ceremony. Donna (daughter) and Gregory (son) would like to speak at the ceremony. Topics to be discussed further at our April mtg. include: date – mid to late May, time, music, refreshments, David Raymont will speak on behalf of the community, Councillor Palacio and possibly Brooks Foundation President to say a few words. A sketch showing four suggested locations for lane signs was given to Stephanie for consideration by the Transportation Dept.


  2. Street Beautification
    1. Litter and Graffiti – thanks to the volunteers who responded to the email broadcast to help remove old postings from community poles, and to those who have been picking up litter in the streets, and removing graffiti. Amy, John and Rosa volunteered to help paint over areas where graffiti cannot be easily cleaned with solvent. With the early arrival of Spring, Councillor Palacio is trying to get the street cleaning to begin earlier than usually scheduled.
    2. Mayor’s Clean-up Day – Saturday April 24th. John K. is co-ordinating RHRA’s clean-up crew again this year.
    3. Water supplies – John K. has received an estimate of $1450 to establish a sprinkler system in the Springmount gardens which would get it’s water supply from a garden hose. Dick suggested John also obtain an estimate for installing a water supply from the street. John will obtain an estimate for repairs to the Rosemount garden system. Stephanie gave John the name and number of a person in the City Water department who can turn the water supply on and off each year for the Rosemount gardens.
    4. Daffodil Hill Clean-up - much litter abounds on the hill this year. Tall golden rod needs to be removed and bundled for pick-up. It was agreed that volunteers will be asked to come on Saturday March 27 at 1:30 pm AND/OR on Sunday March 28 at 10 am.
    5. Donations – two donations totalling $150 have been received for the Street Beautification Fund. Florence has written letters of thanks. It was agreed that each donor would be given a membership in RHRA for the 2010-11 season.


  3. Postal Outlet Correspondence – Canada Post has replied to our second letter requesting the opening of a new postal outlet in our neighbourhood. They are still looking for an appropriate location.


  4. Community Bulletin Board – Brigid and John are investigating options. Stephanie mentioned that any board set up in a Park would be paid for by Parks and Recreation department.


  5. Police Meeting – March 4th was focused on discussions of having the murals on Appleton being re-done.


  6. Community Welcome Project – A number of addresses of possible new residents were given to Harry. He is following up on these. It was suggested that sample welcome packages be available at the annual meeting in May for new residents that we have missed.


  7. Planning/Zoning/Construction
    1. Mt Royal Parkette and Bump-out
      1. letter to Councillor Palacio - We have requested in writing that the bump-out be formally incorporated as an integral part of Mount Royal Parkette. In support of this suggestion, Councillor Palacio has arranged that Robert Mays of Beautiful City Division work closely with Amy’s Bump-out Committee in planning the bump-out renovation.
      2. Bump-out planning progress – the Bump-out Committee is preparing a drawing to help guide the bump-out development and facilitate communication with the City. Councillor Palacio will be calling a public meeting as soon as renovation plans are agreed amongst Transportation, Beautiful City, Parks, and the Bump-out Committee.
    2. St. Clair Street Trees (between Westmount and Winona) – Dick reported that the new trees on the north side of the street have been pruned above head level while low and broken branches remain on some trees on the south side of St. Clair.
    3. Clean up Contract –In the next few weeks, Councillor Palacio will schedule a walk-about of our area with Steve Adams, Dick, David Keith (and any others interested) to identify items for repair or replacement due to the ROW construction. Items for consideration should be sent to Dick. Items identified at this meeting included: re- installing bike posts, pruning of trees, levelling of sunken tiles at tree bases, addition of litter receptacles, repair and replacement Garrison Creek markers on St.Clair and on interior streets.
    4. New Zoning by-law –Several Residents’ Associations are concerned that if the draft is adopted it could result in increased density that is undesired for their areas. Peter has agreed to monitor the process on behalf of RHRA.
    5. 2010 schedule of road & sidewalk repairs - Stephanie will provide RHRA with information affecting the Regal Heights area.

  8. Events & Projects schedule
    1. Update – the schedule of upcoming events was updated to include: Daffodil Hill Clean-up - March 27 and 28; Clovis John Brooks Lane ceremony – late in May; Regal Road School Spring Fair – May 27.
    2. List for Annual meeting – Anita has drafted a one page handout covering RHRA projects that came to completion in the past year. It was agreed that this info should be distributed at the Annual Meeting to highlight our accomplishments. Linda will to help finalize the draft.

  10. Other
    1. Cell phone transmitters at Regal Rd Apartments – residents are concerned about being exposed to an excessive amount of electromagnetic waves being emitted by the 12 microwave towers on the building. Carolyn and Ghislaine volunteered to monitor the issue. Dick will send copies of the relevant files to Carolyn.
    2. YIMBY – Carolyn who works for The STOP Community Food Centre is co-ordinating the ‘Yes In My Back Yard’ initiative to encourage people who have unused garden space to allow a vegetable garden to be planted and cared for by volunteers.
    3. RHRA table at the Regal Road P.S. Spring Fair – It was agreed that Harry and Ghislaine will try to get permission to set up a table at the fair to showcase RHRA activities and possibly recruit new members.
