
Regal Heights Residents' Association Executive Meeting
Minutes - Tuesday April 18, 2006
- Heritage and History
- Regal Rd School Portico - In addition to the restoration of the front portico of the school, reconstruction of the circular drive-through is being considered in order to improve safety conditions for the children. Roman Oleksij of the Toronto Works Department is preparing a draft design to circulate to school council, which will include a lay-by parking cut into the curb for parking off the walkway path.
- Local History group - interest in starting up this group has received a good response. The first meeting will be held at the Dufferin/St. Clair Library at 7pm on Tuesday April 25th. The proposed agenda is to discuss the goals of the group, how to organize the group, the frequency of the meetings and the geographical boundaries of the study. The library will also be reviewing the restoration plans for the library and the murals.
- Third edition of St Clair West in Pictures - no further info has been received regarding a 3rd printing of the book. It would be desireable to have some books available for purchase during the OCI 100th anniversary celebration May 1st to 4th 2008. Florence and Rosa will follow up with Barbara Myrvold of TPL.
- Street Beautification
- Gardens & street planters - many encouraging compliments have been received about the blooms on Daffodil Hill and the Rosemount gardens. We are now replacing planter barrels. About 70 Easter lilies obtained by Ariela Weisfeld will be planted along the Springmount blvd. Thanks Ariela.
- Graffiti - a new rash of graffiti has appeared on some cars, on the walls of the Scotiabank, 1148 Davenport and Regal Rd apartments. Mike is looking into the possibility of having a wall mural painted on some of the walls to deter future graffiti markings.
- Compost dates and locations - May 6 at Earlscourt Park, May 30th at OCI parking lot.
- Mayor's Clean-up Day, Saturday April 22 - John Keating has organized the day.Volunteers will meet at the OCI parking lot at 10 am where materials for clean up will be distributed and streets assigned.
- Communications & Website
- Welcome to RHRA Website "about us" page is still in the draft stage.
- Planning & Zoning
- St. Clair Transit work schedule - replacement of gas lines along St. Clair Ave. should be complete by end of April. Toronto Hydro work will be complete by end of June. John K. volunteered to write a letter on behalf of RHRA requesting undergrounding of the hydro wires along St. Clair in our neighbourhood . The ROW construction between Yonge St. to Vaughan is expected to begin this July and finish in November 2006. Design Consultation meetings for our area, west of Vaughan, are expected to be held later this year.
- St. Clair "Avenue Study" - this study is being conducted separate from the TTC transit project. On April 19, the West area public meeting (Glenholme to Keele) considered "future visions" for open spaces, streetscape and gateways, special sites, and built form. The East area group (Glenholme to Bathurst) will prepare "future visions" for their area on Wednesday May 3rd at St. Matthews Church from 6:30 - 9:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to participate.
- Regal Heights Bistro poll - we have no information on when the poll will be conducted.
- 28 Winona - a public meeting to discuss the building of 5 townhouses on that site will take place sometime in May.
- 1130 Davenport Ave - last week the property was sold to the owner of the 28 Winona site. There have been preliminary discussions with the City re future uses.
- Rogers Tower - drawings from Rogers show the proposed replacement tower installed towards the front of the roof at1142 Davenport. The tower will be much smaller than the existing one.
- Future of Daffodil hill -We discussed whether it might be preferable to have the property owned by the City rather than the Board of Education. Mike may do some initial explorations into this possibility.
- Schools
- Oakwood Collegiate gardens and Sakura trees - the trees will be planted by the Environment Club on May 11th or 12th just north of the parking lot.
- OCI repairs to steps and sidewalks - no response has been received from Maria Rodriguez to our letter sent 3 weeks ago in support of the simultaneous repairs of the steps and sidewalks. Discussions with school officials indicate that serious consideration is being given to "simultaneous repairs".
- Annual Meeting - Tuesday May 16th at Oakwood Collegiate 7 to 9 pm
- Agenda - review of accomplishments over the past year, election of next year's executive, establish need for November public meeting now that information is available year-round on the website, possible extension of boundary to include west side of Winona, possible guest speaker.
- Registration - Linda will manage registration ($10 per family). A City of Toronto pin will be given to each registrant (one per family). Everyone is welcome to attend regardless of whether or not they take out a membership.
- Refreshments - coffee, juice and cookies to be served; Florence to coordinate.
- Displays - Florence and Peter will consider a projector display, Anita to prepare a draft info sheet of RHRA projects as a handout. Dick to coordinate other displays.
- Other
- Ward 17 Environment Day, Sat May 6th at Earlscourt Park - this year the compost will be available at the St. Clair Ave site along with the rest of the Environment Day activities.
- Canada Census, May 16 - forms will be available online after May 2nd at www.census2006.ca Completion of the census is mandatory. One in five households will be requested to fill in the long form consisting of 53 questions. The short form only consists of 7 questions.
- Inclusion of West side of Winona Ave in RHRA - Manuel Gomez has requested that the West side of Winona be included in RHRA. Flyers inviting the residents to attend the annual meeting will be given to Manuel to distribute. The matter can be discussed at the annual meeting.
- Mt Royal Parkette - the public meeting to present the preliminary drawing of the new park design will take place within the next 6 weeks.
- Bike Week, May 29th - the St. Clair BUG (bike users group) will be organizing a program to celebrate the week.
