Dick and Florence W.

  1. Heritage and History
St. Clair West in Pictures – The Toronto Public Library has decided to produce a 3rd edition of the book. Ten additional pages will be added to include more recent historical information of the area. 1500 copies will be printed to be sold at cost of $20 per book. It was agreed by all present to contribute $500 from the RHRA heritage fund towards the production of the book. For this contribution, RHRA will receive 42 copies of the book which we will sell to recapture our costs and to gain an expected profit of $340 on our "investment".

  2. Street Beautification
    1. Mayor’s Clean-up Day – clean up for RHRA area is scheduled for Saturday April 19th. Meet at the OCI parking lot at 10 am to participate. Flyers will be placed on poles and notices have been posted on RHRA Communications.
    2. Daffodil Hill clean-up report – some 20 people turned out for the clean-up which took less than one hour. Thanks to the volunteers that came out. The daffodils are in bloom and getting better everyday. Enjoy!
    3. Earth-day seedlings – 1800 black spruce seedlings have been obtained by former M P Charles Caccia to be distributed to schools, organizations and individuals in this district. Brian Mac Connell will coordinate delivery of 64 seedlings to current RHRA members. On Saturday April 19 between 10 am and 12 noon, 500 seedlings will be distributed to shoppers at Dufferin Mall. The seedlings were donated by Cook Lake Nurseries in Dryden, Ont.
    4. Rosemount and Springmount gardens clean up – clean up of the Rosemount gardens is scheduled for Wednesday April 23 at 6:30 pm. A date to clean up the Springmount gardens is "to be announced".
    5. Graffiti – once again the mailboxes, grey boxes, etc. are in need of cleaning of graffiti. Volunteers to remove the graffiti will find lacquer thinner to be most effective. Please adopt a box to clean up.
    6. Residual hydro guy-wires – some left-over guy-wires and protective tubing remains in two locations in the Rosemount gardens after the hydro poles were removed. John and Richard volunteered to remove these items as soon as possible.
    7. Free Compost available
-from Ingram Transfer station Saturday mornings, (416.392.5592 call to confirm supply). - after 4.30 p.m. at the following dates and locations: April 24, Roseneath Gardens Parkette; April 25, St Clare School; May 14: Loretto College School; June 2, Mount Royal Parkette. - at Environment Day hosted by Councillor Palacio, June 21 from 10 to 12 noon at Lorretto College.

  3. Planning and Zoning
    1. TTC ROW – the last open house to discuss the ROW plans for our area was held on April 9th. The meeting to discuss the proposed Street Tree plan has been postponed again.
    2. Mount Royal Parkette – is nearing completion. It was suggested that a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the parkette would be a good opportunity for Councillor Palacio to celebrate a job well done, and much appreciated by the community.

  4. Special City Projects
    1. Handguns petition – an online petition started by Mayor Miller is circulating to request the banning of handguns. To sign this petition go to www.toronto.ca/handgunban
    2. Zero footprint - one additional person has completed and joined the RHRA test group. For details of how to complete a review of your carbon footprint go the to the minutes of February 19, 2008 on the RHRA website archives.

  5. Garbage/Recycling
Pilot project, survey, public meeting – neither a survey nor public meeting has been set up for participants in the pilot. Articles have been published in the newspapers lately with residents expressing concerns about the lack of storage available for the large bins for many of the homes in the Toronto area. No solutions to the problems encountered in the pilot have been explored. Once the program goes City-wide, it will look like garbage day everyday, everywhere! John Keating posed a good question: “What is the point of having a pilot program when you don’t ask anyone how it worked, and what needs to be done to correct the problems?"

  6. Schools
    1. Regal Road School traffic controls – A meeting was held recently with the principal, parent council and City to discuss the misuse and abused uses of the lay-bys. It has been agreed that some physical changes will be made and procedures changed to improve operations and safety.
    2. Regal Road School to become an ecoschool – measures are being taken to make Regal Road school more ecologically friendly. Computers and monitors will be turned off at the end of each day; the number of room lights left on through the night will be reduced and photocopying and computer print-outs will be double-sided. Linda D. will prepare a more detailed outline of the program for the Annual meeting and for RHRA Communications distribution.
    3. OCI 100th Anniversary – on May 4th and 5th, 100 of the black spruce seedlings will be handed out at OCI.

  7. Annual Meeting : Tuesday May 13, 2008 7pm at OCI
Linda will look after receipt of membership fees; Florence will co-ordinate the refreshments; flyers will be distributed to new residents in the area and to residents on Winona which has recently been added to our catchment area. Other notices will be posted on poles and sent out by RHRA Communications e-mail.

  8. Membership and Finances
    1. Current data - we have 64 paid family memberships; petty cash - $48.10; operating fund - $689.33; heritage fund - $305 (plus $500 which has been committed to the St. Clair West in Pictures publication).
    2. Estimates for 2008-2009 - will be printed on the back of the annual meeting agenda.

  9. Other
    1. Regal Road School playing field – has been cordoned off to give the newly laid sod a chance to grow. The students are not allowed on. Principal Mintz is also requesting residents to stay off the field until the fenced-off area is re-opened.
    2. School pool closings – it was agreed that it is up to individuals, rather than RHRA, to voice concerns regarding school pool closures to the TDSB, the City and the Province.

Next meeting: Annual Meeting, Tuesday May 13, 2008, 7:00pm at Oakwood C.I.
