Regal Heights Residents’ Association Executive Meeting Report
Tuesday April 20, 2010, 7:00 pm at Calhoun’s, 47 Glenholme

  1. Amendments to March 23 Minutes
    1. items 7d, & 10a: It was agreed that some parts of these items would be clarified during discussion of items 4b and 7d during this meeting , (q.v.)
    2. item 10b, line 1: should read “… food bank is helping to coordinate

  2. Heritage /History
    Clovis John Brooks Lane Ceremony – the Brooks family members were welcomed to the meeting. Details of this public ceremony were agreed as follows. Date & time: Wednesday May 19, 6 pm. Rain date: May 20. Location: east side of Glenholme at the lane. David Raymont led a discussion of details of the ceremony, speakers and timing, etc., and offered to coordinate the project with the assistance of Brent and the Brooks family.


  3. Street Beautification
    1. Daffodil Hill clean-up March 27-28 – 21 people turned out to help clean up the hill. The daffodils are in full bloom and are beautiful. Richard, John, Florence and Dick will meet soon at the site to determine how to manage the many sapling trees that are sprouting.
    2. Street plantings – 8 flats of pansies received from the Parks department have been planted in various street locations. Please water them if there are some plantings near your home.
    3. Mayor’s Clean-up Day Sat. Apr 24 – meet at 10am at the Oakwood C.I. parking lot.
    4. Graffiti – the laneways near St.Clair between Northcliffe and Glenholme have been partly cleaned up. The graffiti-covered wall at the Glenholme steps has been painted over by RHRA members.
    5. Water supplies – the water supply to the Rosemount gardens has been turned on. John will now obtain an estimate to repair the sprinkler system. He continues to liaise with Stephanie regarding the possibility of obtaining a water source for the Springmount gardens.
    6. Compost – pick up will be available Friday April 23rd at Oakwood C.I. parking lot starting at 5pm. Volunteers are needed to distribute compost on the Rosemount gardens between 5pm. and & 7pm. on Fri. Apr 23.
    7. Street-litter containers – a replacement large-mouth waste receptacle is desired for the one missing from the Springmount steps. Additional receptacles are needed at some other locations; Florence will send a list to Jorge.

  4. Planning/Zoning/Construction
    1. Mt.Royal Parkette and Bump-out – a meeting is set for April 21st with Robert Mays and the City to discuss the bump-out renovation.
    2. New Zoning By-law – Peter has been monitoring the progress of harmonization of the zoning by-law that will apply to the entire City of Toronto. A Statutory Open House is planned for May 27, and a final public meeting will be held on June 16th.
    3. Schedule of street repairs – Jorge reported that no major repairs are scheduled for the Regal Heights area this year.

  5. Annual Meeting Tues. May 18, 7 pm. at OCI cafeteria
    1. Registration & fees – Linda and an assistant will be registrars. The membership fee remains at $10 per year per family.
    2. Agenda – annual reports will be given as usual by chairmen and project convenors. The policy of holding four meetings in members homes and four meetings at OCI will be discussed.
    3. Election of executive – David Raymont will be asked to chair the election
    4. Displays – Dick will coordinate the displays. The Brooks family will provide a collage of Clovis John Brooks memorabilia.
    5. Notices – flyers will be put up on posts at intersections. A notice of the Brooks lane-naming ceremony will be included on the flyer.
    6. Refreshments – Florence will co-ordinate.

  7. Other
    1. Police Meeting April 1 – Police advised that break and enters tend to occur when valuables have been left in clear sight through windows. Police advise keeping purses, laptops and car keys out of sight. The mural design for the Appleton walls has been finalized. A copy of the design was circulated at this RHRA Exec. meeting.
    2. Community Bulletin Board – John Keating showed a picture of a 4-sided Community kiosk in Cabbagetown. He proposed, and it was agreed, that we should build one similar for RHRA. Materials for the project will be provided by the City, and John will manage the construction. John recommended that we seek approvals to install the kiosk in OCI parkette. Alternative sites including Mount Royal Parkette and Rosemount boulevard were briefly discussed.
    3. Community Welcome Project – three packages have been distributed to date, and seven additional deliveries are pending. Harry will assist Beth with these deliveries.
    4. Cell phone transmitters at Regal Rd. Apartments – Carolyn and Ghislane plan to meet with two of the residents of the Regal Rd. apartments to get an update on the situation. Councillor Palacio’s office has initiated communication with Bell Mobility and Wind Mobile regarding health implications of the antennae towers.
    5. Community compost days – Councillor’s Palacio’s recent newsletter has listed the compost days and locations near our area. It is also available on his website.
    6. Street Sale – Margaret Rao reported that the sale will be on Saturday June 19th from 9am to 2 pm. A sign-up table to register potential street captains will be set up at the Annual Meeting.
    7. RHRA table at the Regal Road School Spring Fair, Thurs.May 27 – Harry and Ghislane have received permission from the school principal and parent council to set up a table at the fair to showcase RHRA activities.
    8. Thanks to Peter Norman for managing the email service during David Shanoff’s vacation.
