- Heritage & History
Regal Road School heritage plaque unveiling – the unveiling went as planned on Monday September 24, 2007. An article on the unveiling appeared in the October issue of the Forest Hill Town Crier paper. The meeting agreed that the restoration of the portico could be a good project to submit to Heritage Toronto for possible recognition. Harry will submit a report to Heritage Toronto.
Naming of the new program room at Dufferin/St Clair Library – A letter was received by Dick on September 24th from the Toronto Public Library informing us that the TPL Board formally approved naming the room “The Earlscourt Program Room”.
“St Clair West in Pictures” reprinting – Dick has received a letter from the Area Manager of TPL indicating that a meeting will be held soon with Regal Heights representatives to discuss funding for the possible reprinting of the book.
- Street Beautification
Street gardens and planters etc – Marla Percy has kindly agreed to co-ordinate the maintenance of the west section of the Rosemount gardens. All but two of the hydro poles have been removed from the north side of Rosemount which allows for better showcasing of the gardens. More daffodil bulbs will soon be planted in the gardens. A large white truck that is covered in graffiti had been parking in the OCI parking lot near the fencing causing an eyesore. It is now parking elsewhere. The seating wall at the corner is still covered in graffiti. Florence will follow up with Mike Foderick. Plants continue to be stolen from the Rosemount gardens.
Daffodil Hill culling and planting – 8 bundles of unwanted small trees were culled last weekend by Richard Cavanagh, John Keating, Victor Genova, Mike Hussey and Dick Watts. The bundles have kindly been removed to recycling by the Parks Dept.
This Sunday October 21st at 10 am volunteers are asked to come out and help to plant more daffodil bulbs and pick up litter off the hill. Wear sturdy shoes and bring garden gloves and a round mouth shovel to help with the plantings and clean up. Anyone who has been nurturing one of the pine trees handed out during Earth Week, and who would wish to have it planted on the hill, should drop it off at the Watts’ residence before Sunday.
- Planning and Zoning
Mount Royal Parkette and Alberta/Mount Royal bump-out – Amy Bodman, Marjorie Cormier, Mike, Dick and Bill Crabbe (city manager of Park construction) met at the parkette on Oct 11 to decide on placement of the park benches and table. The sod was laid down today, Oct 16. The light fixture is being installed. Concrete steps to Mount Royal Ave. will be constructed within the next month. We wish to extend a big thank-you to Amy Bodman and her committee for the tremendous amount of work and vision they are contributing to the parkette renovation.

- November General Meeting – November 20, 2007
It was agreed that the following two special agenda items should be scheduled for about 30 minutes each, and that regular RHRA business should be briefly dealt with in the remaining time. Each special agenda item will allow for lots of questions and discussion.
Natural gardens policy – Pat Landry from the Parks and Rec Forestry department will be invited to give a powerpoint presentation on Toronto’s managed natural gardens policy and how it works.
New garbage and recycling containers – Kevin Vibert from the City's Solid Waste Management division will present the new containers and program. Hopefully he will have prototypes available for people to see the different sizes.
A pilot project using the new garbage and recycling containers on Springmount Ave and Highview Cres. will also be explained. ( especially re difficulties with long outdoor stairways).
Registration and refreshments - Linda will be registrar. Florence will co-ordinate refreshements. Anita will bring cookies.
Notices -- Harry will discuss with Renata Gonsalves how OCI students seeking community- hours credits might assist with distributing meeting notices to homes in Regal Heights.
- Other
Rowdy youth-group on local streets – recently a group of boys (about 17 years of age) has been behaving oddly, around noon-hour, in the Rosemount/Oakwood area. Residents have reported that they have been finding rocks on their lawns and sidewalks. One resident reported that one of her windows had been broken. Constable Michael Jander of 13 Division is looking into the matter. It is not believed to be gang-related activity.
Hungarian Hall shooting – this is an example of what can happen when space is rented out to whoever. Hopefully the shooting is a one-off incident. The issue will be raised at the next PCP 13 Division meeting. Mike will also liaise with Councillor Mihevc to assist RHRA in monitoring this serious situation in our neighbouring area.
- Next Meetings:
General Meeting – Tuesday November 20, 2007; 7:00 pm at Oakwood Collegiate cafeteria
Next Executive Meeting – Tuesday January 15, 2008; 7:00 pm at 2 Glenholme Ave, at the residence of Harry Lay.
