
RHRA Executive Committee Meeting, Tuesday September 20, 2011

- Street Beautification
- Fall Clean-up and planting
- Street planters - 2 new planters were purchased and 3 donated ones received. 4 planter barrels were replaced leaving one in storage for future use. Mums are being planted in the barrels. The Parks and Trees Foundation will be donating bulbs this year to be planted in the fall.
- Springmount gardens - Marie has been removing graffitti off the waste receptacle. A walkabout will be arranged to poll the residents for ideas of what to do with the garden.
- Rosemount gardens - John has repaired the hose in places. Clean-up of the gardens is planned for Sunday October 16th at 10 am weather permitting. Volunteers needed.
- Daffodil Hill - Florence has taken pictures of the copious amounts of rubbish that has been dumped on the hill. The removal of this will be done during the annual fall clean-up later in October. Mike will assist in arranging for pick-up of the furniture. Florence to email photos to Mike a couple of weeks before the clean-up day.
- The new Parks supervisor for ward 17 replacing Mike Hindle is Karinthia Battig. She would like to have a tour of our community gardens.
- Graffitti - A walk about by Councillor Palacio's office has identified the northwest corner of Alberta and Davenport to be one of the worse sites. Mike to report back on the action plan.
- Canada Post relay box at Rosemount/Oakwood intersection - this box has been repeatedly tagged with graffitti. It has been relocated several times and is now situated by the bus stop. Police will be organizing efforts to catch vandals in action.
- Planning, Zoning, Construction
- Progress re: replacements of
St. Clair trees - Mike reported that the trees along St. Clair will be all replaced in late October/ early November. The Parks Department has taken over responsibility for the trees from the TTC and therefore will be looking after the maintenance.
Garrison Creek Markers - Mike reported that replacement Creek markers have been made. They will be installed this fall. Mike to liaise with Dick to ensure that the City knows where all the markers are to be installed.
- Progress Re Mt Royal Bump-out renovation - Amy Bodman left a written report about the progress of the renovations. With her moving away from the city, the committee now needs a new chairperson. Julie Mah has agreed to be the liaison between the bump out and RHRA. Many of the bulbs planted in the spring did not bloom. A total of $755.10 was spent on the renovations. $745 remains of the City Beautiful grant. Mike to determine what needs to be done with the balance.
- Installation of Information Kiosk and/Garden Sculptures on Rosemount Ave - Many thanks to John who has spent countless hours building the kiosk. Thanks also goes to Jeff Hunt and his crew at City of Toronto Transportation services for supplying many of the materials for the information kiosk and for building the concrete bases for both the kiosk and the sculptures. Today the kiosk was installed in the Rosemount gardens. The City plans to put vintage red cobblestone to surround the kiosk at the base. The bird sculpture is not yet complete.
- Northcliffe Parkette Redevelopment Project - all the required approvals have been obtained to proceed with the redevelopment of the parkette. The soil is being tested. Once the results are received, dates for public consultations will be established.
- City Official Plan Review: Open House dates, venues & times - Wednesday September 21 at East York Civic Center, Monday September 26 at York Civic Center, Tuesday September 27 at North York Civic Center. All held at 3 - 9 pm.

- Concerns about condition of 16 Lauder - the building has been vacant for the past two years. It is becoming progressively more dilapidated. Brigid who lives beside the house is concerned that the building may be structurally unsound or even a fire hazard. Summons and inspectors have visited the site in the past. Mike to investigate what is being done.
- Oakwood Collegiate Renovations - the Office is now located on the main floor. The new program now has 20 developmentally challenged and disabled students who are ambulatory. When the elevator is completed the number of students will increase to 60.
- Regal Road School
- Renovations - work is being done on the windows to determine the structural soundness of the I-beams at the base of the windows.
- the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario has set out an education agenda for the 2011 provincial election. They hope to get voters to ask questions of the candidates with regard to their plans for education.
- Backpacks for children in the Philippines - Dick has received information from an RHRA member regarding a fundraising initiative to raise funds for school supplies for children in the Phillippines. The parent group at the Regal Road School Parenting Centre has undertaken this task. There is a barrel in the office at Regal Road School for anyone who would like to assist in this effort. They are looking for items that children would need at school, such as: backpacks, pencils, erasers, rulers, workbooks, paper, t-shirts, etc.
- Special Events
- Report on Springmount Ave Street Party, June 25, 2011 - It was very well attended and successful. A good time was had by all. A profit of $291 was made and it was donated to RHRA.
- Carol Sing - will be planned for Friday December 16th this year.
- Police Community Partnership - Rosa who attends the meetings on behalf of RHRA had nothing new to report. The meetings will resume on the first Thursdays of each month. The location will be rotating to different locations this year.
- Community Welcome Project - Continued interest in the welcome package is being received. 15 packages have been distributed to date.

- City Clerk Database
Ghislaine reported that this is an opportunity to network with other associations. She feels that it would be a good idea for RHRA. There is no cost to belong. There is an application form to be filled out stating the mandate of our organization. We would need a volunteer to receive the mail from the city. John Keating offered to be the volunteer. Members voted in favour of joining the database and Dick and Ghislaine and John will work together on writing up the RHRA Mandate.
- Vice Chairman of RHRA until Annual Meeting in May 2012 - Dick has appointed John Keating as Vice Chair and Harry Lay to be second Vice Chair for the year. Both have accepted the position.

- The Executive would like to formally congratulate and thank the BIA for all that they have done sprucing up St. Clair Avenue with their purple light fixtures and planters. It is very much appreciated by the community.
- Rooming houses at 1723 & 1725 Dufferin St. - There will be a meeting held at the Joseph J. Piccinninni Centre (tentative date November 22nd) to discuss the rooming houses located on Dufferin Street. Residents are invited to attend and voice their concerns regarding this issue. A confirmation of the date will be sent out in an e-mail at a later date.
